So the nudge to start this blog was originally to share the magical cure for a baby's cold. They are so sad and helpless. Unable to communicate, and they just stare at you helpless with those eyes. Then you ask your Doctor and most say "if it's a cold, there really isn't anything one can do, but give it time". Ha, time. Right. Luckily the Nurse Practitioner at my Dr's. is AMAZING! Only a phone call away. She shared some goodies with me:
First...check to make sure it isn't more serious, by looking for these warning signs:
1. Sternal retraction. A little section between the lungs will indent when the baby breathes. This is a sign that the illness might be in their lungs. Get to Dr.
2. Flaring nostrils. Again, another sign that they are having trouble breathing. Don't freak out, as this could be a plugged nose, but watch it. Mum knows best.
3. Green phlegm. Blech, that word is even gross to spell! If you are dealing with a green or brown situation, you've got an infection. And infections require meds, and meds come from the Dr, so...
Magic solutions:
I found a few things that work like a charm...
1. Coryzalia. This is a homeopathic med that you can get at Shoppers, or grocery stores. Read instructions. This worked so well to get rid of the....phlegm.
2. Vaporizer. I read that there is no difference between the hot and cold vaporizer. Hot is just more dangerous if your baby Is too close to the steam...but why would they be?! By the time the steam gets to their lungs it is the same temp no matter how it came out of the machine.
